Many shelters are over-burdened and do not have space to keep all pets secure and safe from the elements and other dangers. Some organisations and shelters will ask local citizens to foster pets.
Fostering a pet means you will take in the pet and care for it like you would any adopted pet, but it is a temporary situation. Once a permanent home is found, the organisation will make arrangements to move the pet to it's new home.
Fostering a pet requires a permanent address and a stable home for the pet to sleep, eat and feel safe. Depending on the pet type, walks will be neccasary.
In most cases, you will have first right to adopt, you should contact the organisation you fostered from and discuss it with them.
